  • Code & Canvas: Defining Digital in the Age of Blockchain

    November 8, 2024-August 1, 2025

To identify as a digital artist today is to be recognized as an agent of change. Creative “digital” practice, together with the pace of a rapidly-shifting contemporary society merge to become essential tools in the artistic process. Code and Canvas: Defining Digital Art in the Age of Blockchain explores a variety of technology-driven processes and themes from five globally recognized digital artists— Erick “Snowfro” Calderon, Tyler Hobbs, Sasha Stiles, Emily Xie, and Grant Yun —whose backgrounds originate in the arts, sciences, engineering, and manufacturing. All reveal a hand-to-machine approach, unpacking themes inspired by world cultures, nature, history, and the written word. Whether created through coding to generate algorithms, collaging digital graphics, or harnessing artificial intelligence, the concept created as artistic input becomes a part of a known-and often unknown-output.

Evolved as a partnership between the featured artists, MoA+L, and Iconic Momentsthis exhibition marks a critical moment for museums and digital art, presenting how the rapidly developing digital realm, the physical world, and the unique capabilities of blockchain and Web3 technology have combined to actively reshape the contemporary art conversation, while also working to democratize the artistic landscape for both collector and artist.

  • Exploring Perception: Mads Christensen and the Experience of Color, Form, and Light

    November 8, 2024-June 30, 2025

In Exploring Perception, Mads Christensen is looking to create something closed and reliable that generates a predictable outcome. Trained as an engineer and in his early life Mads worked with binary code as a software developer, now represented in his art practice—that combines digital expertise with explorations of color thus creating two and three-dimensional pulsating works of art, where sunsets and sunrise serve as a philosophical foundation, not in the limited sense of allegory but as symbols of transition and transformation.

Visitors will appreciate Mads ability to create something unpredictable, even random, while also maximizing the potential for unexpected discoveries that frequently embrace flaws in the programming that lead to surprising results, where in places of certainty only visual and virtual chance remain.

  • Lasting Impressions: Shaping a Personal Collection

    November 8, 2024 - November 1, 2025

For more than forty years, the four founders of the Museum of Art + Light (MoA+L) collected works of art by an array of artists who reflect an eclectic mix of media, styles, and eras. This exhibition, drawn from a small selection of personal objects collected by the Museum founders, is a testimony to the founders’ passion for “collecting what you love and sharing it with others.” All works displayed are tied to personal stories and were originally acquired for viewing pleasure, some with the potential intent that one day they might be displayed in a museum. Lasting Impressions (and all current and future exhibitions in the museum) reflect our mission and story of origin:  that works of art can incite positive emotion, cultivate meaningful connections, encourage artistic exploration and spark innovation.
